Mission statement:
WE Dance! was created to partner dance performance and classes with DJ dancing for all.
Our Founder, Marianne Goldberg, believed that movement and dance was essential to our physical and mental health.
WE Dance! intends to foster dance interaction with all ages in a time when social dancing is becoming less and less available on the island.
At Pathways Gathering Space, at the Chilmark Tavern during our fall/winter season, WE Dance! is held monthly.
Often, first we have a performance, or a dance class. Styles include Hip Hop,Tap, Improv and short and long pieces created by local dancers.
Then comes Dj dancing for all ages…

PAST WE DANCE EVENTS

Friday, January 23rd – DJ Vince Patricola 8pm til…
Country Line Dancing Class w/ Jill Gross 7 – 8pm
Vincent Patricola, who has been passionately supporting Detroit’s electronic music community for the last thirty years as a promoter, vinyl record slinger and DJ, is now a Martha’s Vineyard resident. You can catch him spinning classic R&B, disco and jazz records at Sunday B Side Brunch at the First Light Cafe inside Martha’s Vineyard Museum.
As a DJ, he is well known for eclectic vinyl DJ sets that move and groove a crowd with soulful styles ranging from world to jazz, from house to techno. He plays and has played with some of the greatest in the industry. He recently spun multiple events in Switzerland, New York, Chicago and Minneapolis along with his many residencies that were in Detroit.

Most notably, Patricola founded an electronic music magazine called Detroit Electronic Quarterly, managed and helped open Detroit’s club/ community art space Spotlite Detroit, worked at several record stores including Record Time Ferndale (2001-08) and Dope Jams (NYC 2008-11), and organized several record fairs.

In the summer, for the past 4 years, we have partnered with First Friday in Vineyard Haven to bring Silent Disco – DJ dancing to the beach at Owen Park. Using 3 channel headsets, we are able to offer 3 channels of live DJ mixes for dancing outside without disturbing the neighbors!
Silent Disco is a very unique experience. People talk excitably about the odd, funny, interesting experiences they have. With your ID and a small suggested donation you get use of a headset with three channels of music played by 3 live DJs. Dance music plays at the volume you select, but pop off the headset and it’s weirdly quiet.
Maybe you’ll hear some people singing along with what’s in their ears. We see people dancing together while listening to completely different channels! A lot.
It’s a lot of fun to watch even without headsets. My favorite: people who can’t hear any music, dancing to the dancing, not the music. Everyone loves it.
