ALISE EVE & ISLAND HIP HOP

THE HUMA WORKSHOP with THE YARD
This evening the ensemble is sharing an iteration of what we experienced throughout HUMA’s classes and workshops. We explored ways of connecting with and without contact, exchanging weight, embodied listening, actively leading and following, and creating original partner duets. We’re excited to welcome HUMA artists Chelsea and Doron back this spring to continue this process.
HUMA was lucky enough to spend one week on the Vineyard teaching contemporary partnering as well as performing for middle school classes during the day. After those classes HUMA worked with a group of adults, teaching a dance partnering class open to beginners as well as professionals. The classes started with a led warm up, engaged with basic partnering skills, and focused on the difference between leading and letting go. These classes are a result of the ongoing collaboration between Chelsea Ainsworth and Doron Perk. HUMA will come back to Martha’s Vineyard in the Spring to create a dance piece for the adult group that explores these responsive partnering skills through improvisational tools. In NYC HUMA is currently working on a few small tours to Maine, Upstate NY, and Utah as well as teaching partnering classes at a couple of schools. In partnership with The Yard’s MAKING IT Program, HUMA resident artists Chelsea Ainsworth and Doron Perk collaborate with the island community to build a dance from material learned in the workshops.
